Quintón, José Ignacio

Danza composer and musician, Quinton was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on 1 Febuary 1881 but moved with his family to Coamo at the age of two. He began his musical studies at a very early age.

His first teacher was his father Juan Bautista Quinton y Luzon; a Frenchman who was a composer and musician who graduated from Paris Music Conservatory with great knowledge of musical theory and orchestration. Later, Quinton received additional training from noted Catalan pianist and composer, Ernesto del Castillo.

One his better known compositions was “El Coquí”.
