Figueroa, Guillermo

Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico in 1910, Figueroa studied music at the “Ecole Normal de Musique de Paris”. He was a member of the Chamber Orchestra directed by Alfred Carlot and of the “Cuarteto de la Escuela Normal”. He graduated with a “License de Concert” degree and went on to play first viola for Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico for many years, which he later directed.

As an active member of the Figueroa Quintet from 1938, he performed in many concerts throughout Europe, Central and South America, the United States and the Caribbean.

He regularly participates in the “Certámenes de Composición de Danzas” sponsored by the “Círculo de Recreo” of San Germán and the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, and has won numerous prizes in those competitions.
