Rojas, Tito - Salsa

Known as the "El gallo salsero" (the salsero rooster), Tito Rojas was born on 14 June 1955 in Humacao, Puerto Rico.

Rojas began his professional music career in the 1970's, recording his first album with Pedro Conga y su Orquesta Internacional. He went on to join the Conjunto Borincuba, led by Justo Betancourt. With Rojas as lead vocalist and Betancourt conducting and singing chorus, the band released "Con Amor" in 1978.

Leaving Conjunto Borincuba for a solo career in 1978, Rojas recorded with the Fania All Stars and released a couple of solo albums. He gained some measure of success during that period with his hit song "El campesino", before forming his own band: Conjunto Borincano. He then became lead vocalist of a band led by Luis Ayala, called Puerto Rican Power, and appeared on their first two albums, in 1987 and 1989 and hits with salsa versions of the ballads "Noche de bodas" and "Quiéreme tal como soy".

In 1990 Rojas resumed his solo career and released the salsa romantica style Sensual the following year, on the Musical Productions label. Rojas went on to release Condename in 1992 and A Mi Estilo in 1994. With these productions, his steadily increased his sales and popularity.

In 1995, Rojas reached the success he had been working for when his Por Derecho Propio sold double platinum and he was awarded the Paoli prize for "Best Salsa Artist" in Puerto Rico. He was also given the ACE award that same year.

In 1996, his success continued with the hit album Humildemente which included one track dedicated to the memory of his friend, musical director Sammy Torres. He followed with the release of Pal' pueblo the next year. That album included the hit song "Lloro".

Since then, Rojas released his album, 20th Anniversary, with songs like  Claro, in 1999, and two other albums that same year: Alegrias y Penas and Navidad con Tito Rojas.
