Miranda, Luis R. - Danza

The composer was born on June 21, 1875 in Utuado, Puerto Rico. He played the clarinet and guitar and was director of the 65th Infantry Regiment band of the United States Army, for many years. On the death of the famous Puerto Rican political leader Luis Munoz Rivera, he composed the funeral march.

Some of his danzas are still considered among the most popular of the genre:  Recuerdos de Borinquen, "Impromptu", famous for its technically difficult but beautiful solo for bombardino and similar to the danza  Sara by Angel Mislan, and "Recuerdos de Borinquen", composed during a nostalgic period when the composer was in Panama.

The composer died June 15, 1949.
