Luis Enrique - Salsa
Although a native of Nicaragua, Luis Enrique has made a name for himself singing in the salsa genre of Puerto Rico. The talented young singer was, in fact, one of the most popular salseros of the late 1980's and 1990's. Best known for his "salsa romantica" style, Luis Enrique has had several gold and platinum albums, four Grammy nominations and many other awards such as ACE, Golden Globe, Lo Nuestro, Aplauso, and more, earning him the nickname "El Principe de La Salsa" (the prince of salsa). Luis Enrique's debut album, Mi Mundo appeared in 1989 and was followed by two albums, Luces Del Alma and Los Principes De La Salsa, with Eddie Santiago, both released in 1990. In the ensuing three years, Luis Enrique released no less than five more recordings, including Amor y Alegria in 1990 with hits such as "Desesperado", "Tu No le Amas, le Temes," and "Compréndelo," that made him a romantic salsa star in the '90s. En Vivo was released in 1992, four albums were released the next year and two more in 1994. The last of these was a self-titled album that was also the last of his salsa recordings. The record included the widely acclaimed and still aired, "Asi Es La Vida". Remarkably, Luis Enrique was also in great demand as a session artist and provided percussion for many other artists during the same period. He worked in diverse genres like merengue, pop, as well as salsa, with many famous artists including Ricky Martin, Juan Luis Guerra, Foreigner, Arturo Sandoval, Chayanne and the internationally famous Latin pop artist, Gloria Estefan.
Luis Enrique released his last album on the Sony label, Genesis,
in 1996. The recording was his attempt to break away from salsa and into pop music and
