Bosch, Jimmy - Salsa

Jimmy Bosch was born on 18 October 1959, in Hoboken, New Jersey, USA into a Puerto Rican family. Bosch began playing the trombone at the age of 11 and made his public debut four years later. He subsequently played with many of the leading USA-based Latin/salsa artists including Manny Oquendo's Libre, Ray Barretto, Eddie Palmieri, Ruben Blades, the Lebron Brothers, La India and Celia Cruz.

He is currently musical director and featured soloist for Marc Anthony. A respected musician and cultural icon for New York's Latino community, he made his debut as a bandleader at SOB's club, New York City, in March 1996.

Soneando Trombon, his debut album, was released in 1998 and featured a big band, including well-known Latin musicians: trumpeter Alfredo "Chocolate" Armenteros, bassist Andy Gonzalez and vocalists Jimmy Sabater and Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez; playing a mix of Latin styles, including the "salsa dura" ("hard salsa"), of which Bosch is a leading exponent. Bosch not only plays a virtuoso trombone but is bandleader on recording.

His follow-up album, Salsa Dura, featured guests Steve Turre and Chucho Valdes and was as diverse and hard driving as the debut album. The recording included songs such as  Sigo Cambiando.
