Mislán, Angel - Danza

Photo with permission of LaDanza.com

Born in San Sebastián, Puerto Rico on 1 March 1862 Mislán received music classes from his father, who taught him the clarinet and the bombardino for which he developed his virtuosity. When he was 24 years old, he joined the band of Third Volunteer Batallion in Arecibo and rose rapidly through the ranks to become band leader.

Best known as a musician and dance band director, his fame as a composer comes principally from his danzas  Sara (lyrics) and "Tu y Yo", known perhaps as two of the most beautiful examples of the danza genre. He also composed many folk songs, mazurcas, waltzes, marches and paso dobles.

Mislán died in Barceloneta on Febuary 1, 1911.
